Peter Ainsworth has described a report on levels of litter in England as "depressing."

The survey found that over half of England is blighted by unsatisfactory levels of litter - and the Shadow Environment Secretary stressed that this raised "fresh questions" over DEFRA's attempts to address the problem:

"The appalling fact that more than half of England is blighted by unsatisfactory levels of litter demands a renewed effort from the Government and local authorities."

The Shadow Transport Secretary, Theresa Villiers, has welcomed the news that BAA intends to sell Gatwick Airport.

She explained, "For over a year, we've been calling for BAA's monopolistic grip on airports around London to be broken up so we welcome steps to sell Gatwick."

And she promised that a Conservative Government would make sure BAA improves life for its customers:

"We will continue to keep the pressure on BAA to ensure it dramatically improves the quality of service it gives customers - which may mean Stansted should be sold as well."

Dairy farms vital to food security

Jim Paice, the Shadow Minister for Agriculture, has warned that our food security is being undermined by a huge decrease in the number of dairy farms.

Official statistics show that there are nearly 50% fewer dairy farms in England today than in 2000 - and some areas, including the East and the North East, have suffered a 60% decline.
