Matthew Maxwell Scott

Matthew was born and bred in London, growing up in Tooting Bec. He and his wife Melanie live with their baby son Charles in Earlsfield. Matthew works for the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) as a speechwriter for the organisation’s director-general and president, writing on all manner of issues affecting businesses large and small. He previously advised the CBI on public-service reform.

Matthew is involved in a number of local campaigns, including improving Earlsfield Station, protecting the River Wandle and fighting to prevent the proposed Springfield Hospital development being out of proportion with what local residents want or the area’s infrastructure can cope.

Matthew is a governor at Nightingale School, which helps boys and young men with behavioural and emotional difficulties improve their chances in life. It has been repeatedly rated by schools’ watchdog Ofsted as “outstanding”.

When he’s not working, being active in local campaigns, or spending time as possible with his wife and son, Matthew is an avid cricket fan – and an awful player. A graduate of the University of Edinburgh, his other interests include history, trivia, walking and (failing to) keep fit.
