With two screens, bar and restaurant and performance space for schools and local groups, the cinema would be a tangible asset to the Southfields community.
Enthusiastically supported by local councillors, the residents have had a lot of money pledged in order to make a competative offer for the site.
As we go to press the outcome is still uncertain, but in any event a fantastic example of the Big Society in action.
