Exciting plans have been developed by a group of residents in Southfields to restore the cinema on the site of Riley’s snooker club which closed down last year.

With two screens, bar and restaurant and performance space for schools and local groups, the cinema would be a tangible asset to the Southfields community.

Enthusiastically supported by local councillors, the residents have had a lot of money pledged in order to make a competative offer for the site.

As we go to press the outcome is still uncertain, but in any event a fantastic example of the Big Society in action.  The group of local residents concerned, the Southfields Plaza Steering Group, maintain a website which is a great place for those interested to register support and get behind the project: www.southfieldsplaza.co.uk
