Balham has received nearly £1.5 million of investments from the Mayor's Outer London Fund after a successful application by Wandsworth Council. The project seeks to explore, enjoy and invest in Balham.

Richard Tracey, the London Assembly Member for Wandsworth commented "The Fund will be used to enhance one of Wandsworth's local town centre's. Balham is a great local centre and the money, which will have a significant impact, is very welcome".

The Fund aims to create 62 new local jobs, fill all vacant commercial units in the area and revitalise Hildreth Street Market and make it a more attractive shopping area for local residents.

Speaking on behalf of fellow Balham Councillors Paul Ellis and Russell King, Councillor Caroline Usher commented: "The focus on Hildreth street market in particular, and the goal of establishing a traders association is great news for Balham residents. Improving the town centre is a real win-win situation for both residents and traders. The money from Boris' Outer London Fund will be put to good use in Balham, making the area even more attractive to shop in.
