George Osborne has attacked Alistair Darling after his speech to the Labour Conference contained no plan on how to cope with the current economic turbulence.

"How extraordinary that a Chancellor could give a speech in the middle of an economic crisis and provide no plan about how the Government is going to handle it."
The Shadow Chancellor, said that all Darling had done in his speech was clear the way for a "scorched earth policy" on public finances:

"With national debt already higher than when they came to office, Labour are now preparing to take us even deeper into the red."

And George stressed that if Labour had saved for a rainy day, they could be helping families now rather than just making excuses.
