Peter Ainsworth has described a report on levels of litter in England as "depressing."
The survey found that over half of England is blighted by unsatisfactory levels of litter - and the Shadow Environment Secretary stressed that this raised "fresh questions" over DEFRA's attempts to address the problem: "The appalling fact that more than half of England is blighted by unsatisfactory levels of litter demands a renewed effort from the Government and local authorities."

Brown made the claim on Sunday's Andrew Marr show - but according to his own official figures, net debt is higher than on the day he became Chancellor.
