Malcolm Grimston

Malcolm grew up in North Yorkshire, graduated from Magdalene College Cambridge and taught chemistry for seven years before moving to Wandsworth Borough in 1987 to take up a post in the electricity industry.

In 1995 he became a senior research fellow at Imperial College and then moved to the think-tank Chatham House, working on energy policy. He is a nationally known authority on climate change and nuclear energy in particular. He also works with other councils in a training and mentoring capacity and has served on the national bodies for negotiating pay levels in public services.

He has been a governor in a number of West Hill Ward schools – Sheringdale Primary, John Paul II, St Cecilia’s and most recently Southmead Primary. He is a Friend of Wandsworth Symphony Orchestra, which has from time to time played his compositions including his Wandsworth Symphony.

Malcolm has represented West Hill ward since 1994, during which time he has chaired the Housing Committee and served as Cabinet Member for Education (during which time St Cecilia’s was built and opened) and for Environment & Leisure. Particular areas of interest include the performance of council services and ethical standards in local government.
